- This two-hour video training consists of three segments. The first part

- takes a closer look at the shell's "metacharacters." Part 2 describes and
- demonstrates the important UNIX tools. The grep, sed, sort, and awk commands
- are covered in detail, as are regular expressions (a pattern matching language
- used by UNIX tools). Part 3 combines shell capabilities with UNIX tools to
- create useful applications

- The video presentation is done by Ray Swartz, a noted UNIX trainer and author
- of the course textbook "UNIX Application Programming, Mastering the Shell." The
- text is accompanied by the course manual that provides reading assignments,
- additional exercises, and addendum.
